San Francisco Opera in the Park
Music lovers of Mozart, Bellini, and Verdi can enjoy their opera masterpieces in the open air at San Francisco Opera in the Park. On Sunday, September 7th starting at 1:30pm, this free yearly concert will be held at Sharon Meadow of Golden Gate Park. This is a celebration of the 92nd season of the San Francisco Opera.
Concert-goers can bring seating or a blanket, and even a nice picnic to enjoy as the park is filled with classics of Leoncavallo, Mascagni, Tchaikovsky and more. There will also be food and beverages to purchase, for those who do not want to bring their own concessions. Get there early to find the best seats and absorb the glorious voices of performers that will be featured in the fall season at the San Francisco Opera.
Performers will include Dolora Zajick who is a mezzo-soprano, and Heidi Stober who is a soprano. There will also be baritones such as Brian Mulligan and Thomas Hampson, and Christian Van Horn who is a bass-baritone. The concert will be hosted by Dianne Nicolini, who is a radio personality at the classical station of KDFC, while the emcee will be the General Director of the San Francisco Opera, David Gockley. Conducting the San Francisco Orchestra will be Nicola Luisotti.
Spectators traveling to the event by bicycle have a special treat, as there will be free bicycle valet parking that is sponsored by the SF Bicycle Coalition. If you are driving to the event, please be aware that the Haight Street Music and Merchants Street Festival will be held at the same time, so traffic is going to be tight due to closures. Avoid Haight Street, as it will be closed between Stanyan and Masonic, as well as portions of Shrader, Cole, and Clayton.
